Newspaper Cuts

Newspaper Cuts is a series of drawings inspired by one year of daily news from the local newspapers in Spain. Throughout the months, I recollected those articles or images that I considered important or interesting, and then drew my impressions about those news. Sometimes I drew directly on the newspaper and sometimes I created a new image in relation to the headlines. The complete series is composed by 34 drawings on paper using oil pastel and pencil.

INASCENTI es un proyecto sobre dibujo conformado por cinco animaciones.

La primera imagen de un hombre con cinco cabezas surgió en las calles de New York en julio de 2011 y sembró la primera semilla de los que actualmente forman los contenidos de la serie final.

Las imágenes, solo en apariencia independientes, surgieron del prolifero pozo de mi imaginación y se convirtieron en secuencias gracias al uso de una animación simple y artesanal. La fuerza sencilla de los trazos y unas historias formadas por reiterados gestos sin artificio visual fueron mis principales herramientas.

Gestación, fusión, descomposición, transición, mutación y sobretodo expulsión fueron los conceptos sobre los que reflexione para crear estos grotescos dibujos en movimientos.

Cuatro historias individuales y una coral con acompañamiento musical unidas por mi interés hacia los sonidos y los fluidos corporales generados por el hombre. Gestaciones arbitrarias e imposibles acompasadas por los sonidos corporales de la respiración, la voz y el latido del corazón.

Dibuje un ser capaz de nacer de sus propios fluidos corporales y engendrar otras vidas desde lo más profundo de su cuerpo. Imaginé una forma potencialmente independiente pero incapaz de subvertir el orden ya establecido de su proceso. Unas figuras deformes y de movimientos maquinizados que son el producto de una profunda reflexión sobre las absurdas necesidades que componen la frágil existencia del ser humano moderno.

This is a drawing project consisting of five video animations.

The initial idea of this work emerged in the streets of New York City. The first image that came to my mind was that of a body with five heads; four of them flourished from its four limbs like enormous vegetable shoots. This first vision made me develop a series of drawings devoted to an unusual cycle.

The images, in appearance independent, aroused from the fertile well of my imagination and became sequences by the use of an easy and artisanal animation. The simple force of the drawings and the minimal stories narrated were my principal tools during the process.

Gestation, fusion, decomposition, transition, mutation and specially expulsion were the concepts in which I was thinking to create these bizarre drawings. Four singular stories and one coral with a musical accompaniment are here combined by my interest in the human fluids. Arbitrary and impossible gestations are accompanied by corporal sounds such as breaths, voices or heartbeats.

I drew a being able to rise from its corporal fluids and breed other lives from the depths of its own body. I imagined a potentially independent shape but nevertheless unable to change its own regulated development. These figures of mechanized movements and deformed bodies were the result of my concern for the illogic needs that make up the fragile existence of modern humankind.

I FILOSOFI (PHILOSOPHERS)

Se trata de un trabajo compuesto por 13 dibujos y 6 videos que hace parte del denominado ciclo de dibujos para animaciones que incluye también la serie de INASCENTI.

Personajes solitarios enmarcados en un fondo neutro que contemplan la posibilidad de un movimiento. Hombres atrapados en sus limitaciones físicas o empeñados en pueriles tareas son algunos de los protagonistas que componen el universo inspirado en pensadores contemporáneos.

En las seis animaciones que surgen a partir de los dibujos, cada personaje desarrolla una acción sencilla. Algunos desaparecen mediante movimientos torpes y otros simplemente caen; Unas imágenes al límite de lo posible que pretenden reflexionar sobre nuestra verdadera libertad de acción y pensamiento. Solo quise dibujar mitos sin alas y con una tremenda dificultades de movimiento, héroes cansados de la larga espera y atrapados en sus interminables vicisitudes.

IFILOSOFI is a work consisting of 13 drawings and 6 videos that forms part of my series of drawings for animations that also includes the work INASCENTI.

Lonely characters framed by a neutral background, men trapped in their physical limitations or determined to do childish tasks are the protagonists of this universe inspired by contemporary thinkers.

In the six animations that come out of the drawings, each character develops a simple action. Some disappear through clumsy movements, while other simply fall.

What I tried was to draw myths with no wings, thinkers with enormous movement difficulties, heroes exhausted after a long wait and captive of their endless vicissitudes.
